Substitute Guidelines

Starting with the 2010 ride, you can not have a substitute for more than one year. This means that you must ride every other year. Otherwise, your riding membership will be converted to a non-riding membership for one year. You can then rejoin as a riding member in accordance with the Krewe's wait-list procedures for riders, which ranks people based on their join date. The year you rejoin as a riding member, you must ride and can not get a substitute that year.

We waived the sub policy for the 2021/22 parade years. So, if you had a sub for the 2022 parade, you can have a sub for the 2023 parade.

Important Dates and Fees:

The normal sub fee (which the member must pay) is $150. You must pay this sub fee regardless if you found your own sub or have requested the Krewe's help in finding a sub. You must notify the Krewe in writing no later than December 1 that you want or have (if you've secured your own) a sub. If you have found your own sub, you must also supply us with her name, mailing address, phone numbers and email by December 1. If you get your own sub, failure to provide the Krewe with your sub's name and contact information by December 1 will result in you being charged the additional late fee.

If you inform the Krewe of your sub, or ask us to help you get one, after December 1 there is a $100 late fee in addition to the regular fee. Therefore, if the Krewe learns after December 1 that you are using a sub, your sub fee will be $250. Likewise, if you are using your own sub, but do not give us her name, street address, email and phone number until after December 1, your sub fee will be $250.

The last day to request a sub is 14 calendar days before the scheduled parade date. The Krewe never guarantees that we will find a substitute but if you let us know early enough we will try. If you discover after that date that you need a sub, and you pay the $250 sub fee you can still have a sub in your place; however it will be up to you to find the sub.

If you have a substitute riding for you this year, it is important to remember that the sub may need a different costume size that you originally ordered. There is a $15 charge for XL and XXL costumes and they must be ordered or changed with Jeanne by October 1. It is also important to remember that a substitute rides in your position on your float. Your substitute cannot demand to ride on another float.
